The Destination Pays d'Uzès Pont du Gard is fortunate to be located in a region recognized for its exceptional wine-growing character. The climate, the clay-limestone soils and the grape varieties are at the origin of the quality and diversity of the appellations. In this Mag article, we invite you to discover these different appellations which contribute to the richness of the territory.
AOP Duchy of Uzès
The Duchy of Uzès appellation extends over 77 communes of Gard representing 308 hectares, from the edges of the Rhône Valley to the Cévennes via the plains of Uzège.
The soils of the appellation area are mainly clay-limestone. On these soils, the vines
coexist with olive trees and truffle oaks, the two other flagship products of the Destination
Country of Uzès Pont du Gard. The hillsides are dotted with capitelles, these dry stone huts.
The wines of the appellation are all blended wines. Mostly produced, reds are enjoyed with well-cooked meat, spicy cheeses and even chocolate desserts. White wines will be perfect with fish or poultry thanks to their intense aromas and flavors. Finally, rosé wines are the ideal ally for an aperitif based on tapenade or summer salads.
In recent years, the appellation's winegrowers have taken a real turn in favor of ecology by converting to Organic Farming. A large number of winemakers are currently following an environmental approach.
Since 1991, the wines of the appellation and their producers have been represented by the union of
winegrowers from the Duchy of Uzès. The union monitors the application of the specifications and ensures the
promotion of the wines of the appellation.
They are part of the Destination Pays d’Uzès Pont du Gard appellation: Domaine de Malaïgue, Aqueduct Estate, Domaine de Panéry, Domaine Deleuze-Rochetin, Clos de la Garriguette, Domaine les Lys, Domaine Perdrix-Lasouche, Domaine Reynaud, Domaine Saint-Firmin, The Bourdic Hills, The Winegrowers of Montaren-Serviers et The Vines of Arque.
AOP Côtes du Rhône
The AOP Côtes du Rhône is the appellation that defines the wines produced in the Rhône Valley, the second AOC vineyard in France after Bordeaux. It extends over 163 municipalities spread between six departments (Rhône, Loire, Drôme, Ardèche, Gard and Vaucluse) from Vienne to Avignon.
Like neighboring appellations, most of the production comes from the southern vineyards,
predominantly Mediterranean. The most represented grape varieties are Grenache (40% minimum) and Syrah, which is very present throughout the southern part.
Like the entire French vineyard, virtuous practices are developing more each year in the Rhône Valley.

The particularities of this terroir? Its clay-limestone soil covered with rolled pebbles and this plateau swept by the mistral 200 days a year. This precious ally cleanses the vineyard and allows harvesting at optimum maturity.
The AOC Côtes du Rhône Villages Signargues is available in red only. Grenache noir, the Mediterranean grape variety par excellence, represents at least 40% of the blends. Syrah, the perfect ally of Grenache Noir, and Mourvèdre constitute the two other main grape varieties of the appellation.

IGP Coteaux du Pont du Gard
The IGP Coteaux du Pont du Gard was born from a common desire of winegrowers to unite around a
shared identity. Before vin de pays, the IGP Coteaux du Pont du Gard was created in 2010. The area
extends from the shores of the Mediterranean to Ardèche.
The PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) is a European label protecting and guaranteeing the origin and quality of the product. Unlike the AOP or AOC, the IGP concerns a region and not a terroir. The quantity of grape variety is often greater also in the protected geographical indication.
Beyond the production itself, the characteristics of this IGP are found in the incredible heritage which borders the appellation. Firstly the Pont du Gard, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But also the scrubland, a typical landscape of Uzège, and the water which strongly contributes to the aromatic profile of the grapes.
Given their location and climate, the wines offer a Mediterranean character. Red wines with strong color are powerful and warm with fruity aromas. White wines and rosé wines are full and fruity, generally vinified to be consumed young.
Every summer, you can meet the IGP winegrowers during the Vignerons sur le Pont event. For one evening, the producers meet at the foot of the Pont du Gard to offer you their best vintages. All in a musical atmosphere with concerts and food trucks.

IGP Cévennes
Formerly called Cévennes vin de pays, the vineyard has been IGP Cévennes certified since November. It has a strong identity linked to the heritage and values of the Cévennes, namely the
resistance and freedom. Formerly dedicated to local consumption, wine production occupies
today a major place in the territory.
Many winegrowers in the appellation are part of a wine tourism approach and welcome visitors to their estate. In 2017, the Cévennes vineyard obtained the national “Vignobles & Découvertes” label.
The Cévennes IGP wines consist of an excellent balance between freshness and elegance which reflects the climatic originality of the territory. Soft, fruity and fresh, they go perfectly with local specialties such as pélardon, black truffle or honey.
These wines evolve around an attenuated Mediterranean climate with its contrasting seasons and violent Cévennes episodes.
They are part of the Destination Pays d'Uzès Pont du Gard appellation. : Domaine de Panéry, Domaine Deleuze-Rochetin, Domaine les Lys, Domaine Perdrix-Lasouche, Domaine Reynaud, The Bourdic Hills, The Winegrowers of Montaren-Serviers, The Vines of Arque et Solan Monastery.
AOC Costières de Nîmes
In the region of Costières de Nîmes, the presence of vines has been documented since Antiquity. The vineyard
was structured in the 1950s with Philippe Lamour, president of the national company
planning of Bas-Rhône and Languedoc. It was then necessary to wait until 1989 for the AOC to take its name as we know it today: Costières de Nîmes.
The AOC Costières de Nîmes wines all have the same particularity: their southern character. Of the
pleasure wines to gastronomy wines, this character is a sign of their origin. They are made using a mosaic of grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache or Mourvèdre for reds and rosés. White Grenache, Roussanne, and Marsanne for the whites. For the three colors, the blend of at least two grape varieties is obligatory.
Nîmes and its vineyard are inseparable and share the same emblem: a crocodile and a palm tree.
The winegrowers are also present at the city's major events such as the Feria, Jeudi Vin or Nîmes Toquées.
The AOC only concerns a small plot of the territory of the Destination Pays d'Uzès Pont du Gard.
