In the heart of the Pays d'Uzès Pont du Gard, between vineyards and scrubland, the Farmhouse of the Sages is much more than just a gîte and bed and breakfast. This haven of serenity, nestled in a village with authentic charm, invites its visitors to a timeless interlude, where comfort rhymes with respect for the environment. For Esther, the owner of the place, sustainable tourism is obvious: "It aims to reconcile the discovery of our destination with the preservation of the environment in the broad sense: nature and its resources, but also monuments, infrastructures, as well as local specificities, traditions and culture."
An ecological approach anchored in everyday life
For over twenty years, Esther and her team have paid particular attention to the impact of their activity on the environment. Without there being any trigger, respect for the planet has always been part of their way of life. "We have been paying attention to the planet for over 20 years," she explains. However, the last three years have marked an acceleration of their commitment, which was realized in 2024 by obtaining the Ecolabel. This certification, reinforced by the support of the Ademe Sustainable Tourism Fund, has allowed Mas des Sages to structure its actions and, above all, to better promote them.
Three key actions for responsible tourism
At Mas des Sages, every action counts. Three major actions perfectly illustrate their eco-responsible commitment:
- The installation of aero-solar panels to heat water, thus reducing the consumption of fossil energy.
- A selective sorting and composting system to limit waste and nourish the soil.
- Water and electricity saving devices, essential for preserving natural resources.

Raising awareness among visitors about a responsible approach
Le Mas des Sages does not just adopt good practices: it invites its guests to do the same. To achieve this, several awareness-raising tools are put in place: fun displays in the form of “nudges”, highlighting the Ecolabel on the website and in the rooms, discussions and advice on arrival and throughout the stay. Visitors thus discover that they can, at their level, contribute to more responsible tourism.

An ideal of collaboration between hosts and visitors
In an ideal world, for Esther, sustainable tourism would be a true co-construction between hosts and their visitors. "Our guests would behave here as if they were at home, by adopting simple but essential practices: sorting their waste carefully, using air conditioning or heating reasonably, avoiding letting water run unnecessarily and turning off the lights when they are not necessary." A vision of tourism where every small gesture becomes a collective commitment to the environment.
Stay at Farmhouse of the Sages, it is therefore much more than a getaway: it is choosing accommodation that combines comfort, authenticity and respect for nature. So, are you ready to live an eco-responsible experience?
