This year, from May 1 to October 26, 2025, a fourth edition of Uzès Exposition is to be discovered: “The Roux Dynasty, witnesses of a maritime and commercial epic”

2025: An immersion in the heart of maritime art

More than 110 works will be exhibited, including numerous watercolors by the Roux family and several paintings by the Adam family. These exceptional canvases will be accompanied by numerous naval artifacts and splendid ship models.

The Red Dynasty

A tradition born in the heart of the port of Marseille

It all began in the middle of the 18th century with Joseph Roux, founder of a maritime shop in Marseille, where nautical charts, compasses, compasses and colored flags were sold. Very quickly, this workshop became the receptacle of a prolific work transmitted from generation to generation. Antoine Roux, then his sons Frederic and François, stand out for their talent as watercolorists and their incredible technical precision.

The art of capturing the soul of ships

Far from the approximate representations of their time, the Rouxes stand out for their unparalleled attention to detail, paying homage to the ships they paint. For almost a century, their works have attracted naval officers, captains, and French and foreign shipowners. Hung on the walls of admirals' offices, sailors' houses, and even the Louvre Museum, their watercolors become essential references of maritime heritage.

A legacy that crosses the oceans

With the arrival of steamboats, the tradition evolved, carried by other artists such as Édouard and Victor Adam ou Louis Roux, who perpetuate this art under different influences. Even today, the work of the Roux, widely recognized across the Atlantic, remains preciously preserved by those passionate about the sea and navigation, testifying to a rare know-how and an unwavering passion for the maritime world.

Come and explore this exceptional heritage during the Uzès IV Exhibition and immerse yourself in the fascinating history of the navy through the watercolors of the Roux family.
