In Domazan, known for the quality of its vineyard, come and taste the cuisine of Bistrot de l'Hoste: local, fresh and entirely homemade with a little taste of Italy.
About us
In the Gard, a small area looks exactly like Tuscany with vineyards as far as the eye can see. Welcome to Domazan, a charming village of 930 inhabitants nestled between Nîmes (30 km) and Avignon (20 km). There are no less than 21 private cellars! The village benefits from the prestigious Côtes du Rhône and AOC Signargues recognition. And to top it all off, the Pont du Gard, this UNESCO World Heritage gem, is nearby.
Le Bistrot de l'Hoste is above all a family story. Originally from Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, Pascale joined Domazan three decades ago. His passion for cooking was passed on to him from a young age by his Italian grandmothers, who taught him the secrets of authentic flavors and traditional dishes, but also from a whole family of restaurateurs and gastronomy enthusiasts. Excellency. The name of Bistrot de l'Hoste is a tender tribute to his mother who ran a guest house. Suffice it to say that sharing is an integral part of Pascale's DNA. Today, the café-restaurant has become the real meeting point for the inhabitants of the village. The winegrowers meet there at dawn to share a coffee, while the counter gradually fills up with construction workers, veterans and passing travelers. Here, we chat, we laugh, we find out the gossip and above all, we enjoy good food and we share good times together. Pascale passed on her passion to her son Thomas who grew up in Domazan. After a rich experience abroad and in prestigious French addresses, he returns to his roots with his partner Anastasia who welcomes you warmly. Behind the counter, he makes the bistro a living space where he composes original cocktails: the refreshing “Italicus sour” - Italian bergamot liqueur, the exotic “Caïpirinha”, the sparkling house creation, his “Bistro cocktail” – basil, lemon juice, homemade raspberry coulis, Vodka, Perrier – or even the most indulgent, the “Expresso Martini” – Vodka, Kahlua, coffee liqueur, Baileys, coffee –. Behind the piano, he delights the taste buds.
Like the atmosphere, the cuisine is family-style, generous and entirely homemade, highlighting fresh seasonal vegetables. Undeniably Italian influenced, healthy and tasty. The daily special changes daily, while the menu is renewed every month. Among the specialties, we recommend the semi-cooked tuna in virgin sauce, garnished with tomatoes and village olive oil, accompanied by snow peas, peas and carrots. You can also taste the tender and tasty beef steak, or the real Caesar salad prepared according to the rules of the art, with a homemade breaded chicken which will delight lovers of authentic recipes. The ravioli of Mère Maury de Romans, stuffed with white summer truffle or basil, are a pure delight. Gourmands are not left out with the desserts: strawberries in elegant pavlova or simply with homemade whipped cream, artisanal ice creams from Ardèche... The bistro's specialty: lavender ice cream, decorated with pine nuts and honey. lavender with its light whipped cream (no need to tell you that it's homemade, right?).
The bistro has not one, but two shaded terraces! The first, located in front of the bistro, is typically Provençal with its pretty fountain in the shade of the plane trees. Facing the town hall, it will allow you to feel the soul of the village while listening to the gentle murmur of the water... La dolce vita is within reach. The second is located in the charming patio. You can enjoy a glass of wine in complete peace or enjoy a meal while soaking up the Italian atmosphere that emanates from the ocher walls. The interior, completely renovated, reveals superb moldings, homemade lighting and a unique creation: a wall of 3000 corks signed Thomas, which sits behind the bar. The family has managed to preserve and rejuvenate the 200-year-old counter, recalling the charm of the bistros of yesteryear.
The little extra: concert evenings once a month. If you are also a karaoke lover and like to sing along, a special evening is dedicated to you once a month. Every first Sunday of the month, a delicious brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 16 p.m.
An address that you will not soon forget, both for the quality of its dishes and for the generosity of its welcome. Magari!
