Description
From the town hall car park, follow Chemin de La Baume (to the left of the bakery) for 1km to reach the “La Coufine” sign.
Continue right. You are evolving in the scrubland. Go down gradually in bends before crossing an undergrowth to finally arrive at the edge of the river.
In front of you is the old La Baume mill and in the background the small chapel nestled under the cliff.
Turn left to go up the path and reach the chapel.
The path cut into the wall will allow you to reach the cave.
It is closed from 15/11 to 15/03 and from 01/05 to 15/08 due to bat hibernation
Bring an electric light to cross it.
Once the crossing is complete, go up the path for 1,1 km which leads to the plateau above the gorges towards the sign “les Condamines”.
Turn left and follow the GR6 for 800m until the sign “les Coufines”.
Turn right to reach the village of Sanilhac.
Be careful, being mainly fed in summer by resurgences, the water of the Gardon is very cold.
The risks of hydrocution are very high. For this reason, swimming is prohibited on the La Baume site (Sanilhac-Sagriès) all year round.
