This walk will take you through the heart of the Gorges du Gardon to the magnificent and wild site of La Baume. This is the only route that runs along the Gardon. Not recommended in the event of recent rains, the banks may be submerged in certain places

Description

Park in the (paid) car park at 2 avenue du Pont du Gard in Collias

Head towards Pont St Vincent and follow the path on the right which goes up the Gardon, direction “La Baume”.

Continue straight ahead to find the yellow markings and the signs for “Queue du Grand Glas” then “Vallon de la Caille”.

At around 750m pass a small passage which runs alongside a large rock.

Continue straight ahead to find the ruins of an old mill.

Continue straight ahead for 300m along the river then go up on the right via a narrow path which then extends onto a track towards “La Coufine” for 2.2 km. *

At the crossroads, turn right towards “les Condamines” via the GR6-GR63

Then always straight ahead towards Collias, following the red and white markings to reach the signs for “La Grande Terre” (stay on the GR6-GR63 and leave the track which goes off to the left), then “Ménode” and Collias.

You arrive at Collias via the “Vai Aure” path.
At the crossroads, turn left “chemin du Barry”.

Turn right to take the Grand rue which crosses the village to reach the sign “Collias – Le Portalet”.

Turn left and go up Rue de la République.
At the end of the street, turn right onto Avenue du Pont and walk 150m to reach the car park.


* An alternative can be offered to you by turning right towards the Chapelle St Veredème. It is thus possible to reach the scrubland plateau and the GR6-GR63 via a steep path “Les Condamines Sanilhac.”
