Bullfighting traditions
From spring, the villages of Gard come alive with votive festivals, organized in honor of patron saints. These celebrations combine conviviality and a popular atmosphere, offering a rich program of entertainment: concerts, equestrian shows, funfairs and, of course, bullfighting traditions.
Among them, theabrivado and Bandit are spectacular moments. The abrivado consists of the herdsmen leading the bulls from the herds to the bullring, while the bandido marks their return. These impressive parades enliven the village streets and bring together enthusiasts and curious onlookers.
THEconfinement, another local ritual, sees the bulls released into the streets to join the corrals or the arenas. This event impresses with its proximity to the bulls and the excitement of the moment!
The rocks et bands, small groups of musicians, wander through the streets, bringing a festive and warm atmosphere. After the races, the bodegas become the beating heart of the festivities, where amateurs and enthusiasts come together to extend the party in a unique atmosphere.

The ferias
Inspired by Spanish and Portuguese bullfighting festivals, the feria are unmissable events in spring. The most famous, the Nîmes Fair, brings the city to life every year during the Pentecost weekend. For 5 days, the excitement is at its peak: parades, concerts, bodegas and horse and bull races punctuate this great celebration.
The Camargue race: a duel of skill
An essential bullfighting game in the Gard, the course camarguaise tests the agility and speed of the bullfighters against the bulls. Dressed in white, they must, using a hook, retrieve the attributes (the cockade, the tassel and the string) attached to the bull's horns in a limited time. This confrontation, where the man challenges the animal without harming it, is a strong symbol of Camargue traditions.
Throughout the season, the best raseteurs compete to collect points and hope to win the prestigious Aces Trophy.

The herds
The Camargue bull, a true icon of the Gard, is raised in the herds, where he grew up in semi-freedom. From a very young age, his abilities were assessed to determine whether he could become a cockade – a bull intended for Camargue bullfights.

The best of them are honored with prestigious titles such as the Golden Tau or Golden BiouOnce their career is over, these bulls return to the pastures for a peaceful retirement.
