Exposition "Gaston-Louis Roux, peindre la Garrigue"
Wednesday, September 18 at 14 a.m.
Musée Georges Borias Place de l'Évêché BP 103 Musée situé au 2e étage de l'Ancien palais de l’Évêché 30701 Uzès
The exhibition presents a selection of around fifteen paintings created between 1970 and 1981 by Gaston-Louis Roux. Born in 1904, he rubbed shoulders with the surrealist movement. However, it is another path that he will choose by coming to paint the scrubland every summer.
Gaston-Louis Roux (1904-1988) was first associated with Surrealism and abstraction. He broke away from it in the 1950s, choosing to return to figurative and meditative painting, which favored the landscapes of Seynes, in the Gard, where he stayed every summer from the 1970s.
The landscapes around Seynes' house were a continual source of inspiration for him; this is why this exhibition is dedicated to them, with fifteen paintings and four drawings lent by the painter's descendants.
In a subtle balance between incisive drawing and colorful vibrations, Gaston-Louis Roux transmits both the shape of the landscape and his own emotion in the face of the beauty of nature.
