A land of artisans
The kaolinitic clays of the territory have made the towns and villages of Uzès, Serviers, Saint-Victor-des-Oules and Saint-Quentin famous. Immemorial know-how was developed there, first through the manufacture of ceramics for culinary purposes and then finer pieces. In the Middle Ages, decorated tiles were even supplied to the Palais des Papes in Avignon!
Over time, it was the village of Saint-Quentin (which became ''La-Poterie'') in 1886 which established itself as the capital of production.
If the kilns gradually died out from the mid-1980th century, a real renaissance of these activities took place in the XNUMXs with the European Festival of Ceramic Arts, Terralha, which is held every year in the month of July.
Today, nearly 40 potter and ceramist workshops enliven the streets with their colorful houses. They are open for courses or visits and give substance to the “Ville et Métiers d’Art” label awarded in 1992.
