The most beautiful landscapes around Uzès and the Pont du Gard
The Gardon gorges, Biosphere Reserve
The Gardon Gorges, located between the village of Dions and the emblematic Pont du Gard, constitute a biosphere reserve recognized by UNESCO since 2015. This exceptional site is a protected natural area which extends over approximately 30 hectares and is home to a great diversity of landscapes, ecosystems and cultural heritage.
Recognition as a biosphere reserve helps promote sustainable development that combines environmental preservation and human activities. Various projects are carried out there to raise awareness of nature protection, promote sustainable tourism, and support local agriculture and crafts. The Gorges du Gardon are an example of harmonious management of a territory where nature and man coexist in balance, offering a unique setting to visitors and a model of environmental preservation.
The Garrigue scrubland
Formed by the degradation of the Mediterranean forest, the Gard scrubland is a real cradle for biodiversity that has adapted to local climatic conditions. Here, the landscapes are rich and contrasting: limestone plateaus, hills, plains and clay soils. There you will discover exceptional places such as the site of Fosses of Fournès, a lunar landscape with very strong geological particularities where kermes oaks, wild lavender and rosemary blend into the clay landscape.
Natura 2000 sites
The Destination Pays d'Uzès Pont du Gard is a true preserved setting where nature reigns supreme. The ecological wealth of the territory is revealed through 4 exceptional sites classified Natura 2000 : the Gardon gorges, Lussan's conclusions, the pond of Capelle-et-Masmolène and the Valliguières pond. Essential tools of the European biodiversity preservation policy, aiming to further integrate biodiversity issues into human activities, they are specifically designated for the protection of habitats and species representative of European biodiversity.
