During your stay with us, we advise all lovers of the great outdoors to take a trip to the Cévennes, a mountain range located at the gates of the Destination Pays d'Uzès Pont du Gard. Here, a mosaic of landscapes is offered to you: forests, valleys, gorges, limestone plateaus, rivers... A true paradise for hikers! And many other activities are possible…

Explore the Cévennes National Park

The Cévennes National Park, located between Gard, Lozère and Ardèche, is the ideal playground for hikers. Whether you are on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback, in the heart of this wild nature and these superb panoramas, you feel a real feeling of freedom!

Explore the vast landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see: many of them have been partly shaped by the hand of man and his herds. Because you are here on livestock land: it is also very likely that you will come across herds of sheep, goats or cattle on your way.

During your visit to the Cévennes, don't forget that you are in a protected territory, designated a Biosphere Reserve and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Respect for the nature that surrounds you is essential!

Meeting the fauna and flora

Open your eyes wide and listen carefully: you may have the chance to observe or hear the many wild animals that reside in the Cévennes. Since the creation of the National Park, many have been reintroduced to the territory: deer, mouflons, roe deer, beavers, vultures, and many others...

The flora is also extremely rich and you will not fail to come across numerous species of flowering plants and ferns on your way, most of which are protected. And the emblematic tree of the Cévennes is the chestnut! It has also constituted for many years an essential resource for the Cévennes, who exploited it both for its wood and for its fruit. You will easily recognize it by its large deciduous and toothed leaves.

Discover the villages of the Cévennes

The Cévennes are not just landscapes! Also visit the many small charming villages in the area, renowned for their authenticity and their art of living. On the Cévennes Gardoises side, we advise you to take a trip to Anduze, renowned for its production of vases. And if you want to get a little closer to our destination, opt for Vézénobres, known for its silkworm farming during the 19th century.

Here, the inhabitants are not only purebred Cévennes: in the 70s, many hippies fled the cities to settle in these lands and mingle with the local population. Even today, the Cévennes are a favored land of welcome for people looking for more authenticity and a simpler pace of life. Don’t hesitate to go and meet these residents!

What activities to practice?

There are a multitude of activities that you can do in the Cévennes, besides hiking. For example, you can visit sites and museums such as the Silk Museum, the Maison de la Figue or the Bel Air Distillery, or decide to explore a cave! Discover the Grotte de Trabuc or the Grotte de la Cocalière. And if you want to practice caving, opt for the Abîme de Bramabiau.

Take a walk in one of the most beautiful gardens in France: the Bambouseraie in the Cévennes. Here, a plant heritage made up of more than 1000 varieties of remarkable plants, bamboos, flowers and trees awaits you!

Finally, during your visit to the Cévennes, board the Steam Train and embark on a guided tour of the National Park.

You will have understood: a wide range of activities are possible in the Cévennes!
