A magical and wild place, the Camargue is located just an hour from Uzès. On the edge of the Mediterranean, this territory with unique and preserved landscapes invites a change of scenery.

Exceptional and protected landscapes

Between the Mediterranean and the Rhône delta, the Camargue is a vast wetland, with landscapes shaped by the river, the sea, the wind and the sun. In this territory with a fragile balance, human activity and protection of nature are linked. THE Camargue Regional Natural Park was created to ensure the preservation of this unique territory. Many of these natural spaces benefit from protected status: they are classified Natura 2000, Biosphere Reserve, or even Marine Reserve…

Exploring the Camargue will allow you to understand that a large part of its landscapes have actually been shaped by man. Indeed, the territory constitutes an ideal place for the exploitation of salt and rice, but also for fishing and agriculture.

Observe the Camargue wildlife

Take advantage of this getaway in the heart of nature to observe the wildlife of the Camargue region. When we talk about the Camargue, we immediately think of Camargue horses and bulls.. But many other species have taken up residence in this vast natural space.

This is the case with birds. The Camargue is located in the migratory axis between northern Europe and Africa: it therefore constitutes a privileged stopping place for them. Some sites have been specially designed for bird watching: be attentive, you may be lucky enough to see a few!
And the emblematic bird of the Camargue is undoubtedly the pink flamingo.

Did you know

Is the Camargue the only nesting place for the pink flamingo in France? It is therefore present and observable all year round in the region.

And the richness of the Camargue fauna does not stop at birds: several species of turtles, but also coypus, have made it their home.

Visit the towns and villages of Camargue

The Camargue heritage can also be discovered through its towns and villages.

Often fishing towns, they each have their characteristics: the white houses of the Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, the fishing port of Grau-du-Roi, the medieval ramparts ofAigues-Mortes, the Tower of Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, the salt marshes of Copy-de-Giraud, the abbey church of Saint-Gilles listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site… Without forgetting Arles, considered the capital of the Camargue and renowned for its Roman influence. You are spoiled for choice!

A land of traditions

The Camargue is also a land of traditions!
Among them, the breeding of bulls and horses, called “manades”, greatly influenced its identity. Led by herdsmen, the herds are at the origin of numerous local events which enliven the villages of our region, from spring to autumn: Camargue races, ferrades, bullfighting shows, abrivados, swimming pool bullfights, etc.
