Capital of ceramics

Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie is a picturesque village located near the town of Uzès. Nestled in the heart of the Gard countryside, this village is renowned for its pottery craftsmanship which dates back to Gallo-Roman times.

The history of Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie dates back to Roman times, when pottery was already an important activity in the region. During the Middle Ages, the village prospered through its pottery craft and became a renowned center of production.

Archaeological excavations have revealed the existence of this craft from the end of the 14th century. Its development extended well beyond the village, since the Popes of Avignon at the time ordered some of the tiles for their palace from the craftsmen of Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie. It was in the 19th century that the activity reached its peak, with, among other things, a clay pipe factory.
